Commissioned art: Morsmordre

Morsmordre

Morsmordre.
For [info]siriusdenial who requested post-HBP Harry and the Dark Mark. I had it mostly done for awhile, but didn't have a chance to add the rain and all the details until now. Sometimes I need to set aside a painting and spend a few days away from it in order to make up my mind on how to finish it.

[info]aseneth, I didn't forget. Am still working on yours. :)

I'll be in the corner, coding and posting Chapter 7 of Price of Magic. *ducks and runs from collective (or perhaps imaginary) 'about time!' echoing from the speakers*

Oh dear god, you are so talented! Your take on Harry in this picture and the one you drew with him and Draco are my favourites to date. Is this oil or coloured pencils?

Stunning. Absolutely stunning.

*sighs happily*

[info]siriusdenial specifically asked for Harry to look like the one from that H/D artwork. I was only happy to follow her instructions. It's all digital, no natural media involved. My usual mix of OpenCanvas, Dogwaffle, and some Photoshop work. Done with the tablet.

:) Thank you. Glad you liked.

Wow. You constantly blow me away with your art. :) This is beautiful. I really like the haziness of the background through the rain, the Mark glowing in the distance, and Harry, who is gorgeous.

[info]acid3

August 25 2005, 19:18:55 UTC 6 years ago

Thank you, Mosh. The background was mostly inspired by Spinner's End description. I had fun drawing the atmospheric effects, with the rain and the fog. And Harry too, of course. I always picture Tom Welling as Superman nowadays when I think of grown up Harry. :)

The detail on this is breathtaking. You captured everything I was feeling when I asked for this commission. Thank you!

I enjoyed it very much! Thank you for commissioning this. :) I'm so glad that you like it.

Oh wow!!! I really like this. Excellent piece. You really are wicked talented. I love the dark tones, makes the red and green really stand out.

[info]acid3

August 25 2005, 19:23:58 UTC 6 years ago

Thank you. :) Oh yes, I was trying my best to emphasise Harry's gold/red colours against the dark mark on the background. Photoshop's auto-levels and auto-contrast feature that I usually use to tweak the coloring didn't agree with me on this and tried to make everything too bright. So I just decided to keep the original colors, even though they're a bit bleak. Rainy weather is supposed to be like that. :)

Oh, it's gorgeous! (I feel redundant always saying that about your art, but it always is!) The way you draw and your attention to details is amazing! The way you drew the water dripping down his face and neck is very realistic and Harry looks so melancholic, though I'm wondering if he isn't looking at someone outside the picture? *looks at background* Is that Spinner's End?

OMG you updated PoM?! But...but... *looks around at half packed room* Must get off internet, must resist fic. I'm so reading it, first thing when the unpacking is done!

[info]acid3

August 27 2005, 05:33:10 UTC 6 years ago

Ohh, thank you! I enjoyed drawing the rain effects. They livened up the picture considerably.

*nods* Yep, it was largely inspired by Spinner's End description. I must admit, I was imagining Snape just off the picture for a long time as I drew it.

*grin* I did. It's there whenever you have time to read it. Hope you like the update.

This is simply marvelous! Evocative, melancholy, and very, very gorgeous!

I'm glad you came back to do the rain and other details, they add such richness and depth to the picture.

[info]acid3

August 27 2005, 12:54:54 UTC 6 years ago

Thank you, Julia. :) Yeah, the picture didn't quite look finished without all the details, but I sort of went crazy drawing the rain drops and all the tiny light effects on the Horcrux.

Amazing! Harry and the Dark Mark and the buildings seen through the rain -- it's absolutely beautiful!

August 27 2005, 12:58:01 UTC 6 years ago

The buildings were easier to draw in the fog: less details. :) Thank you. I am glad you liked it.

OMFG, your'e kidding me, this is TOO good, my eyes aren't worthy.
*Stares blankly into space in wonder*
Where the hell do you get such talent?

[info]acid3

August 27 2005, 12:59:52 UTC 6 years ago

Mmmm, most of it is patience and practice. And the ability not to toss the drawing tablet against the wall when the half-finished concept sketch is driving you insane. ;)

Thank you.

*squawks* DUDE. HOLY CRAP. That's absolutely amazing, and. Gyah. LKojklanlnas, mnlkasjl. Harry is gorgeous (Tom Welling, right? :D), and again your digital work has that lovely luminous quality, even when he's standing in some dingy alley way. That's the horcrux locket, right? I like the trail of red magic coming from it.

[info]acid3

August 27 2005, 13:02:12 UTC 6 years ago

Ohh yes. You recognised my Tom Welling ref. I always picture him as a grown Harry. Heh, the red magic trail definitely had the Final Fantasy Phoenix-down influence.

Here via HT. This is gorgeous. Your Harry looks like Cillian Murphy with black hair and glasses, which is really really nice :)

[info]acid3

August 27 2005, 13:05:11 UTC 6 years ago

I had to google Cilian Murphy, out of curiosity. Ohh, nice. :) I'll probably be using his facial features as a reference in some of my next works.

Thank you.

Oh lord. So wonderful. Possibly my favourite piece of fan-art ever. I would love to have a print of this framed and hanging on my wall. Is that something you and [info]siriusdenial would be comfortable with me doing, given that it was a commission? If no, that's no problem, but if yes, is there a higher-res version?

... and ... oh, I'm having a thought. I would love to commission a companion piece to this. Snape?

*reads through commission info* ... I guess I'd better email you. :)

[info]acid3

August 27 2005, 01:08:57 UTC 6 years ago

Uhh. You'll have to check with [info]siriusdenial for permission to print this as well as permission to distribute a higher-res version. It's up to her.

I was thinking of offering prints of some of my artwork (*cough*Lessons Learned*cough*) but since this a commission and I don't have anything certain set up yet, I'll let you guys work it out. Unless you want an official, signed, 1-of-limited-number print of this shipped . . . then I'll see what I can come up with locally.

A companion piece? YES! *grins* The thing is, I have two digital paintings and two digital drawings to finish before then. So it might be awhile until I can get to it.
